Claribel (Albright) McClain, 86, St. Joseph, died Monday, March 8, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. McClain was a chemist in the lab of Quaker Oats for 14 years. She also was a chemistry teacher in Port Whittier, Alaska, when Alaska was admitted as a state.
Born in St. Joseph on Aug. 12, 1912, she spent most of her life in St. Joseph. She was a graduate of Central High School; and earned a bachelor of science degree in home economics from Iowa State University in Ames; and a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Chicago in Chicago.
Mrs. McClain was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Francis Street First United Methodist Church.
She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and had 10 ancestors in the Revolutionary War and authored two family books chronicling the Albright families.
On May 19, 1948, she married Finis McClain in St. Joseph. He survives of the home. Mrs. McClain was preceded in death by her parents, James and Madeline Albright; a sister, Sarah Albright; and a brother, Bill C. Albright.
Additional survivors: a daughter, M. Melissa McClain-Wegmann, St. Louis; a son, George W., St. Joseph; and six grandchildren.
