Samuel S. Allen was one of the last of early day merchants in St. Joseph.
His father was Samuel S. Allen a pioneer hotel keeper at the location later known as the Galt House, in St. Joseph. His mother's maiden name was Sarah Amus, both parents were from Kentucky.
He was born in Mumfordsville,Kentucky Jan 24, 1835 attended school in Brunswick, Missouri, moved to St. Joseph Nov. 10, 1854. For twenty years from 1856-1876 was a Missouri river pilot. He married Emaline Dillon Jan 1, 1861. Mr. and Mrs. Allen had no children. |
