A Beloved Teacher Dies: Sudden Death of Miss Mamie Nash, Second Grade Teacher in Everett Grammar School.
Miss Mamie E. Nash, twenty-eight years old, who for twelve years had been a public schoolteacher, died at 6 o'clock last night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al N. Nash, 301 North Thirteenth street; after an illness of two days. Miss Nash was born in Marysville, Kan., and came to St. Joseph wiht her parents when she was eleven months old. Since that time she had lived in St. Joseph practically all that time until her death. Miss Nash became a public schoolteacher following her graduation from Central High School in 1903. For seven years she was a teacher at the Crosby School and five years ago she was transferred to the Everett School, where she was teaching until two days before she died. She never complained of being ill, and her death comes as a surprise and shock. Miss Nash was an exceptionally bright and energetic woman and put her whole soul into her work. She taught the second grade and her classroom was rated as the most successfully conducted of its rank in St. Joseph. Her pupils idolized her and responded to her efforts with the heartiest endeavor they could muster. She had the rare gift of inspiring children. there is deep grief in the heart of every child that has been under her guidance and this grief is shared by her associates and the multitude of friends she had won by her sweet disposition and her simple, earnest manner. Miss Nash was among the American schoolteachers who were visiting in Europe at the time the war broke out. Besides her parents she is survived by a sister, Dorothy Nash, and a brother, Lewis D. Nash. The funeral will be conducted from the home, 301 North Thirteenth street at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and burial will be at Mount Mora Cemetery.
